“Of course.”    “This is a comfortable villa, but it hardly qualifies as the envy of Rome.  I am offering you one million sesterces.  I cannot believe you would pass up such a proposal.”    “There are other considerations.”    “Other considerations!”  This fool centurion must be dull-witted.  “Look at this place,” he said, gesturing with his arm.  “I could put your whole villa in the stables of my poorest estate.  You had better consider the future of your family.  From what I see, the villa cannot sustain itself.  Or am I missing something?”    “How we manage is none of your business.”     The Magic of Making Up spoke quietly, but Atilius saw the flash of anger in his eyes.  He scolded himself—you’ve got to do better.
