Spine surgery techniques new (and untested)
May 19th, 2008 by admin
As you will be aware, there have been some pretty incredible advances in medicine in recent years. Two of our daughters are training to be doctors, and the stories they have about new procedures and cures is heartening. Yet diagnosis and treatment of spinal problems still has a long way to go. It would seem that in the near-future, at least, the trend in spine surgery will be to do less and not more. Minimally invasive techniques are becoming increasingly used in spinal work. This does reduce the cost of operations, in an industry that has to be conscious of costs. And hopefully they will mean less trauma on the patient’s body and therefor improved mortality rates in spinal work. But let’s be frank here, a lot of these new techniques are untested. We are still climbing up the learning part of this curve.
