Is There Merit In An Alkaline View Of Nutrition?

The whole acid and alkaline balance doesn’t get as much mention in the natural health media compared to other ideas. I don’t know if that’s because there’s no merit in it. It must have some potential, though I don’t know if it’s a stand alone cause of disease, or a consequence of it. Maybe it’s not the alkalinity of certain anti-inflammatory herbs, oils and foods that help reduce inflammation and help the body to heal. The alkaline properties of these foods may be an associative presence, rather than the mode of effect.
Still, it doesn’t hurt having more alkaline foods in your diet. A lot of fruit and vegetables are alkaline, though some, especially citrus fruit, are acidic.
