Door knobs back then were just as much part of the house as the remainder of the dcor, and were anticipated to make a statement. For some time the job was banished often to glass artists who made beautiful bubble glass knobs, lead crystal cut into jewel-like shapes, as well as dazzling pieces of brass that were carved into very baroque patterns. As time went on, styles of door knobs came and went, and that was only in more contemporary times the door knobs we used looked to become a bit more uninteresting, and just looked at as things that are designed to open a door.
